Some thoughts from the 2015 GFF: My perspective is that of a 6th time festival attendee not associated (other than in heart and spirit) with W&M or the GFF staff. Although all film festivals have been different, their trademark is world class entertainment. Each has provided its own thematic flavor of visually appealing, inspiring, and thought provoking films...skyping with directors, actors, and actresses...guest attendees and their insightful commentary...catered receptions and socializing....and an enthusiastic and friendly student staff and faculty. Like you, I have my opinion on which films scored highly and which ones I just as soon not have watched. But the same film I may dislike draws raves from the lady sitting across the aisle in the Kimball Theatre. (a sigh and head shake)...We all find our own magic and self discovery at the film festival. As I told Professor Tim Barnard, for me the high point from the 2015 GFF was the artistic presentation by visual and performance artist Noel Molloy on Saturday morning and listening to him tell me about Irish poet, Paul Durcan. If there were other high points, I would say learning about "Charlie's Country" actor, David Gulpilil via skype from director Rolf De Heer; or talking to director, Paul Harrill at the Trellis bar area during the After Party; or the impact of the movie,"The Hunting Ground;" or the W&M Wind Ensemble on stage at the Kimball; or the warmth and perfect social setting for receptions at the art gallery, while talking with film festival alumni, friends, and family; or the student short films; or, or, or... I could go on and on, but nuff said. Six years ago I provided my thoughts and feedback from my first film festival: Film and Music. At that time I said that the GFF is the best entertainment event in Williamsburg...Six years later I stand by that view. Thanks, Tim and crew, for another four days and nights of world class entertainment. This year's memories will last a lifetime. I look forward to 2016.
